How it works

Every volume is turned into millilitres first — multiplying by the entered unit's own millilitre factor — and then divided back out by each of the 11 units' factors. That is one factor per unit instead of a formula for every pair, and it means all 11 results always agree with each other, since they all trace back to the same millilitre figure.

The US customary factors (teaspoon through gallon) are the standard published conversion values, not UK imperial ones — see the FAQ below if that distinction matters for what you are converting.

Frequently asked questions

Are these US or UK (imperial) units?

US customary throughout — teaspoon, tablespoon, fluid ounce, cup, pint, quart and gallon are all the US sizes. This is worth stating plainly because the UK imperial versions of the same names are a different size: a UK pint is about 20% larger than a US pint, a UK gallon is about 1.2 US gallons, and a UK fluid ounce is smaller than a US one. Mixing the two by name alone is a common source of recipe and conversion errors.

Why include cubic metres and cubic inches — this looks like a cooking tool?

Because the same "how much is this in every other unit" question comes up outside the kitchen too — cubic metres for shipping volumes, freight and construction, cubic inches for engine displacement and mechanical parts. Routing every unit through one basis (millilitres) means adding them costs nothing extra; leaving them out would mean building a second converter for exactly the same underlying arithmetic.

How precise are these conversions?

Millilitre, litre and cubic metre are exact by definition. The US customary units use the standard published NIST conversion factors (for example, 1 US cup = 236.588 ml), which are precise well past what any kitchen or shipping measurement needs — the only imprecision beyond that is ordinary floating-point division.
